M-NAV has put a new Air Traffic Management system into operation while the new radar at Skopje Airport is in final testing — amid strong traffic growth.
Macedonia’s air navigation service provider M-NAV has put a new Air Traffic Management (ATM) system into operation, while the new radar at Skopje Airport — installed during 2025 — is in final testing and expected to become fully operational this month or in October. Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski said the two systems will improve the safety, security and efficiency of air traffic management across Macedonian airspace.
The upgrade lands amid strong growth: 173,000 aircraft movements were handled through Macedonian airspace in H1 2026 — up 12.2% year-on-year, 23% versus 2024 and 27% against 2023. The ATM system was supplied by Italian aerospace group Leonardo.
This is part of a wider upgrade of Macedonia’s aviation infrastructure, alongside the new security-screening technology at Skopje Airport and the ongoing growth in traffic.
