Naples is the new direct destination from Skopje — and one of Europe’s most flavourful city breaks. Here is what you need to know before you book.

Visa and documents

Macedonian citizens travel to Italy visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, but the visa-free regime applies only to holders of a biometric passport (Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, Annex II). Macedonia has issued biometric passports since April 2007, so every valid Macedonian passport today is biometric. The passport must be valid for at least three months after the planned return.

Getting to the centre

Capodichino Airport (NAP) is just ~7 km from the centre of Naples. Options:

  • Alibus bus to the main railway station (Napoli Centrale) — ~20 minutes
  • Taxi to the centre — ~20–30 minutes depending on traffic
  • From the main station, the metro and local trains reach all parts of the city

What to see

  • The historic centre (Spaccanapoli) — UNESCO, a labyrinth of narrow streets, churches and markets
  • Piazza del Plebiscito and the Royal Palace — the heart of the city
  • The National Archaeological Museum — the richest collection from Pompeii
  • Napoli Sotterranea (Naples Underground) — a city beneath the city

Day trips from Naples

  • Pompeii — train to Pompei Scavi station, ~30 minutes
  • Mount Vesuvius — bus from Pompeii; book in advance
  • The Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi) — the coast that won over the world
  • Capri — ferry from the port, ~50 minutes

When to go

Best period: April–June and September–October — pleasant weather without the summer crowds. July and August are hot and packed, but at their most lively.
