The European Union and the Schengen area
Macedonian citizens can travel to the EU and the Schengen area without a visa for stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. You need a biometric passport — check the required remaining validity before travelling, since a rule on validity after the date of leaving the zone applies.
ETIAS — what’s coming and when
ETIAS is not yet in effect. This is an online entry authorization (not a visa) that will be required for passengers from visa-exempt countries, including Macedonia.
According to the European Commission’s published timeline, the system goes live in the last quarter of 2026, with a transition period of around six months. During that period ETIAS will not be mandatory — a passenger who meets all other entry requirements won’t be refused just for not having ETIAS. The obligation becomes full approximately in April 2027.
In other words: for travel in 2026, you most likely won’t need ETIAS. The deadlines have been changed several times so far, so check the current status on the EU’s official website before you travel.
Turkey
For tourist stays of up to 90 days, Macedonian citizens are not required to have a visa for Turkey. The travel document requirements — whether an ID card is sufficient and how much remaining passport validity is required — change and vary depending on the mode of entry, so check them before booking. United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi)
For the UAE, Macedonian citizens most often get a visa on arrival. The requirements — the length of the permitted stay and the required passport validity — change periodically, so confirm them before booking.
United States of America
A visa is required for the USA. The process includes:
- Filling out the DS-160 form (online)
- Scheduling an embassy interview
- Paying the consular fee
The process can take several weeks — plan ahead.
