Wizz Air flies Skopje–Alghero twice a week during the summer season. Here's a guide to Sardinia's Catalan town — beaches, visa requirements and getting to the centre.
Alghero, the old Catalan town on Sardinia, joined the summer flight network from Skopje in 2026 — together with Palermo. Here’s a guide for next summer season.
Skopje – Alghero flight
Wizz Air flies Skopje–Alghero twice a week — every Tuesday and Saturday. The first flight was on 18 July 2026. This is a seasonal route: in the 2026 summer season it operated until 12 September 2026. For next summer, check the current timetable with us or with the airline before you book.
Alghero — a Catalan town on Sardinia
Alghero sits on the north-west coast of Sardinia. It’s an old Catalan town — Catalan is still spoken there, and that heritage shows in the architecture and the place names.
Worth seeing are the old town and its sea walls, with the bastions facing the water, and the Catalan Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria. Around the town are the beaches of Maria Pia, Le Bombarde and Lazzaretto, and on the Capo Caccia headland is the Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune’s Grotto).
Beyond Alghero
Further afield on the island are Stintino and La Pelosa beach, Castelsardo and Bosa. A car is the practical way to see the island, while local buses cover the town itself.
Airport and getting to the centre
The airport is Alghero–Fertilia (AHO). The airport’s site lists buses and taxis as the ways into town. Travel times and fares vary, so check the airport’s official website before you travel.
Visa and documents
Macedonian citizens travel to Italy visa-free for short stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, but the visa-free regime applies only to holders of a biometric passport (Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, Annex II). Macedonia has issued biometric passports since April 2007, so every valid Macedonian passport today is biometric. The passport must be valid for at least three months after the intended date of departure from the Schengen area (Regulation (EU) 2016/399, Article 6). The EES Entry/Exit System is now in operation at Schengen borders.
